Roo from London to Australia and everywhere inbetween

Introduce yourself – Where are you from? Where in the world are you currently?

I’m Roo, originally from London, UK, but haven’t been there for over a year now. I was in Australia from September to up until about 2 weeks ago and now I’m living and working at Camp Sloane YMCA in Lakeville, Connecticut for the summer herunterladen!

2. Tell us about your first trip abroad? What first attracted you to a life abroad?

I think my first trip abroad was so early on I don’t remember it, but from the age of about 3 I spent every summer in the south of France at my Grandma’s house and always went somewhere else in Europe too, so my love for travel was sparked from quite an early age. When I was 16 I went on a school trip to Iceland which again ignited something in me, as did my 3 month solo trip across the USA aged 19. I think it was really a culmination of all those things that made me want to uproot and travel the world (that and the possibility of an escape from English weather!)

3 adobe flash player gratisen. What kind of traveller are you? Backpacker? Long-term traveller? Short term? Other?

I guess I started out as a backpacker on my first RTW trip back in 2011, but now I would probably class myself as a long term traveller. In the last 3 years I’ve spent about 6 months at home in London and the rest of the time has been spent bouncing around the world to places like Thailand, Australia, France and the USA subway surfers herunterladen.

4. How do you fund yourself when travelling?

This is quite a tough questions to answer as I don’t really have a ‘job’ per se, I more just do a whole host of random stuff flatcast player kostenlos downloaden. I make a (teeny) bit of money from my travel blog, do some freelance video editing work and try to do as much freelance writing as I can. My main income though comes from my work at summer camp (where I am right now), which also led to another job working with kids in Australia during the time I was there. So basically I work at camp between May and September and use my wages from there to fund as much of my travels as possible for the rest of the year.

5 kostenlos bei youtube herunterladen. Your favourite place you have been to? And why?

Hmmmm, this is so hard to answer, because I love so many places for so many different reasons. I fell in love with Cambodia because of the people, New Zealand because I went on an epic road trip in a campervan, America because my camp is like my second home and Iceland because it was the trip that opened my eyes to the world herunterladen. But I think if I have to pick one, it has to be Australia, or more specifically Byron Bay, purely because of the surfer lifestyle… given half the chance all I ever want to do is skate around, lie on the beach and enjoy a chilled out life.

6. Your least favourite place you have been to? And why?

I wasn’t a massive fan of Vietnam, although that is a huge generalisation as some parts were very lovely videoen von website. I don’t really have a reason to be honest, just that I didn’t fall in love with it in the same way that i did with Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. Oh and I also absolutely LOATHE Miami… that may be to do with the fact that it rained the whole time I was there and I got tonsillitis.

Double your money and halve your clothes. Haha. No but in all honesty, if you have dreams of travelling, then don’t let anything stop you. Not money (just save), not your friends or family (explain to them why you want to travel… it’s your life after all) and not your fears.

So many things…right now I’m really interested in learning to Freedive. But travel-wise, I’ve got two huge road trip dreams – the first through South America (starting in Mexico), and the second starting in London and ending in Cape Town sparda id app. Total pipe dreams at the moment but also totally do-able at some point in the future.

9. When did you start your blog? Why should people read it?

The blog started back in 2010 when I entered the STA World Traveller Intern competition and wanted a way to start an online presence to help my chances in the comp. From there it just grew and grew and over the years has become my little baby. It’s full of tips and advice for young and adventurous travellers, as well as stories from my own travels.

10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

I don’t even know where I’ll be in 5 months, let alone 5 years! hopefully doing something I love in a place I love.

Just that each and every day can be new and exciting if you want it to be. You are always meeting new people and having different experiences, and that’s really why we all travels in the first place!
